COVID Season
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s sick of such limited options for fun these days. Let’s face it, life just hasn’t been the same since this past spring: birthday parties, weddings, baby showers, and anniversary celebrations have been majorly modified or cancelled all together. It’s so easy to feel down and depressed when there’s not much to look forward to. I’m really trying to find the silver lining in all of this, and I’ll be the first to admit that I really do have so much to be thankful for. I’ve always enjoyed event planning-even for small events. So I’ve decided to plan some fun family “parties” during COVID season. Here’s my quick, easy guide to planning some good old fashioned family fun during this time.
Hype It Up!
I told my 3 kids that we were having “Pizza Party Saturday” at auntie’s house- complete with crafts, desserts, and special drinks. I’m sure all of you with children know that they can sense so much based on your own attitude about things. Mom tried to act super excited, and in return they were too! All my kids insisted on dressing up and even wearing their fancy shoes.
Find Inexpensive Entertainment
Especially with the holidays coming up, the last thing I wanted to do was spend an arm and a leg on family fun. We chose relatively inexpensive food options and made it ourselves! The kids had a fun time rolling out the pizza dough and making their own pizzas. The kids’ “mocktail” consisted of 3 simple ingredients: sherbet ice cream, sprite, and some “sanding sugar” for the rim of the cups. For the craft, we just used supplies we already had in the house. Everyone had a great time without having to dig deep into Mom’s pocket.
Make Sure to Include Yourself
Don’t forget, you’re trying to create FAMILY fun. Don’t forget yourself! I came up with the idea of having a signature cocktail for each family fun night. This was my favorite part of the party 😉. I gathered general ideas from Pinterest and decided on a drink based on what we already had in our home bar. The result was so good and tasty. Adding some decorative garnish really made the drink feel special. Hover over the picture above on the left to get the ingredients.
Thanks for reading everyone. Let me know if you have any suggestions for great fun family entertainment during this COVID era!
