We’ve been on a decent amount of family vacations over the years, and by far Disney is always a huge hit for everyone. We’ve enjoyed both the parks and the cruises, and this past month we had the opportunity to visit all four of the Florida Disney theme parks. I always struggle on deciding what to wear on these vacations. Florida is inevitably hot and humid, and we end up walking a ton on these trips. I frequently face the dilemma of trying to be fashionable and comfortable at the same time. Here’s my top 3 Disney fashion tips that will help you maintain style and comfort on your trip.
- Athleisure is key
I visited Disney when my oldest was 2, and I was 5 months pregnant with twins (maybe not the best idea 😬). I remember trying to wear a cute day dress and sandals, and I was absolutely miserable! Good quality athletic wear is definitely the way to go when it comes to maintaining comfort during a warm active vacation.
I usually don’t want to look like I’m about to step into the gym or tennis court on my vacation, but I’ve found some really great, high quality pieces that really don’t make you look that way. I mainly found these items at Athleta and Lululemon before this trip. Most of their clothes have quick drying features, wrinkle resistant technology, and ultraviolet protection factor (UPF). My favorite item has to be the Athleta soho skort. The length and cut are perfect, and the attached shorts give a good feeling of “security”. I’d recommend sizing down if between sizes.
Athleta’s Brooklyn wide leg crop pants were also so light and comfortable for warm weather. I recommend wearing them with a fairly fitted top. I got so many compliments on these. They make the perfect Disney fashion statement.

2. Comfortable shoes are key
I know this sounds like a no brainer, but I saw so many people wearing flip flops at the parks, and my feet felt painful just looking at them! I highly recommend a great quality running or walking shoe when it comes to an active vacation. My favorite new purchase was the slightly old school classic adidas grand court sneaker. They provided a lot of support while still looking cute and trendy. If you are really set on wearing a sandal, I highly recommend Birkenstock’s for arch support. My favorite rose gold style is linked here.
3. Ditch the purse for a backpack or beltbag
I’ve brought my backpack with me on my last couple family trips, and it’s much more comfortable then lugging around a heavy purse. My favorite backpack is by Dagne Dover, and it’s actually a cross between a backpack and a diaper bag. It has so many compartments, and it comfortably fits all the essentials I need as well as my kids’. Click on the image below to shop this bag.
I’ve recently been obsessed with finding cute “belt bags,” formally known as the trusty old fanny pack. This one by loungefly is so great, and it’s on sale! It was a bit big to wear on my waist, so I strapped it around my shoulder. It easily held my phone, ID, credit cards, and some small kids’ items.
