FAMILY PHOTO “FUN”
Family Photo “Fun” FALL FAMILY PHOTO IDEASOk, let’s face it. We all usually love how family photos eventually turn out, but the process of getting to the amazing end result can be flat out painful. I’m not going to lie, I promise myself every year that we will NEVER do family photos again. If you all have kids, I’m sure you understand the the drama that goes into prepping for these photos. You need to time the toddler’s nap and bribe your older kids into obedience. Once my kids get changed into their photo shoot clothes, they inevitably always beg for a messy snack. Mom always needs to look good and ensure all family members look their best also. By the time we get to the location for the photos, I’m always about to lose it. But every year the same thing happens: I love the end result. There’s just something about capturing these little magical moments in time. I’ve been looking through our past yearly family photo sessions, and I can’t believe how much my babies have grown. I really do think family photos are worth it in the end at least!
Family Photo Outfit Planning: I have 3 children, and my sister Jennifer has 2 of her own as well as 2 step kids. Wardrobe planning for 5-6 people can be downright overwhelming to say the least. Oftentimes, I just don’t know where to start. This is what I have learned over the last couple years: start with your outfit. Mom is the one who usually bends over backwards planning these events, right? She deserves to get first dibs at outfit choices. Everyone else should coordinate around her. I usually pick my outfit and then try to pick 2-3 colors that compliment the colors in my outfit and go from there. I’ve generally heard people say not to wear any patterns with family photos. I’d have to say I disagree with this. I think a simple pattern in a few family members’ outfits makes the photos not so boring. If you wear a busier pattern, try throwing a solid cardigan or sweater over the print for a more neutral look. Here’s some great outfits for MOM linked below:
Outfits for Dad: I’m not trying to knock my husband, but he would agree with the following statement: I tell him what to wear, and he shows up for the pictures. We generally try to keep our pictures a little “dressy casual”- like something we would maybe wear on Sunday to church. I always love a slightly fitted jean on guys. If they’re too baggy, the outfit can look a little sloppy. I usually have my husband wear a cute relaxed button down shirt or a patterned collared shirt with a neutral sweater over depending on the weather. Here’s some great looks for guys linked below:
Outfits for the kids: Ok, let’s face it, kids generally look cute in almost anything. My go to stores that carry great kids clothes without too many busy patterns or logos are gap, old navy, H and M, and Janie and Jack. I generally try to steer away from having my kids in exact matching outfits. I love it so much more when kids’ clothes compliment each other instead. And again, I wouldn’t be scared to throw in a simple pattern here or there. For my boys, just like Dad, I love to do a cute button up sometimes with a sweater over depending on the weather. My baby girl is obsessed with dresses, and I love to plan her brothers’ outfits around her’s (just like Mom)! Here’s some links for great kids’ outfits below:
Thanks for reading everyone! Like always, I’ll continue to endure the drama that goes into planning family photo shoots; it really is worth it in the end! Happy shopping everyone! Love, Christina
SUN, SAND, and CUTE MOM SUITS
Jennifer and I just got back from a great Caribbean Disney cruise. It’s always nice to have a warm getaway in the middle of the winter- especially if you’re from Michigan! Both of us were in need of a new bathing suit before our trip. I’m not sure about you ladies, but we always feel like it’s so hard to find a cute, functional suit that you can wear while taking care of your kids that doesn’t look super frumpy and “mom-ish”. I’m always a fan of a cute one piece that can hide the muffin top. I think with these, the cut and material is key. My exact bathing suit and cover-up are linked below. Jennifer’s suit in the two piece version along with her cover up and matching dress to this print are linked below also.
Here’s some more details about my bathing suit. I was looking for something that I could be comfortable in while maintaining some style at the same time. I love the deep V look. I tried on a TON of suits in this cut, and I realized that so many of them really made you look flat and saggy chested-the padding just was not in the right place-well, at least not for a mom who is pushing 40 who has had 3 kids and no plastic surgery 😂. Then I tried this suit by Bleu Rod Beattie. The cut and padding were really perfect. I would recommend sizing down. I usually wear an 8 in bathing suits, and I ended up with a 6 in this one. This general cut comes in SO MANY different versions. I’m actually thinking of getting another one of these for the summer. Look below to see so many other cute versions of this bathing suit. And how cute is the fringe cover-up?!
Jennifer’s bathing suit is so adorable also. It’s by Vix. I’ve owned a couple bathing suits by this brand over the years. I absolutely love how cute and fashionable they are. Here are some other great options by this same brand below.
Another brand I would highly recommend is the miracle suit. Both Jennifer and I have a couple suits by this brand, and by far, it’s the most supportive in the belly area. Here are some great options below.
Of course you can never forget a cute, functional cover up. I think a classic sarong is really great-especially when wearing a 1 piece. How great are these options below? My sun hat is so amazing to travel with too. You can smush it in your suit case, and it pops back in to shape so quickly. Even better it’s $20!
We hope you guys all had a great weekend. Cheers to thoughts of sun, sand, and warm weather! Happy shopping everyone!
BOLD PRINTS WITH CHARMING DETAIL
Hi everyone! I received a lot of questions and comments about this outfit. The top is currently sold out in this exact print, but the adorable leopard print is still available. Similar styles by the same designer are linked below. I’ve always been a fan of a cute ruffle.
I love adding a little detail to an outfit with a cute hat. This wide brimmed classic black hat is so reasonably priced. I’ve recently seen some at a couple other retailers that won’t break the bank. Check out these options below.
Since the holidays are over, I’m already looking forward to spring! You mid-westerners know it will still be cold in MI for a couple months. I’ve received so many compliments on my new winter coat. It’s so warm and gives just the right amount of coverage.
We hope you are all having a great week. Happy shopping everyone!
FRESH FALL LOOK
We hope you all had a great weekend! The weather in Michigan has been unusually warm the last couple weeks, and it’s been so nice to wear some lightweight fall clothing. Us Michiganders know it will be freezing in a matter of a couple weeks! Jennifer and I are absolutely loving the colors in these outfits. We’ve never felt like we looked the best in a “traditional yellow,” but this “marigold” tone is so flattering. Pair either outfit with a great fall hat to complete the look.
Christina’s dress is by VICI and is linked here. It’s definitely a babydoll style, so it will be best for those of you that are lucky to enjoy warm fall weather.
Jennifer’s outfit is linked below along with some great, very affordable fall hats.
I was lucky enough to get a picture with our adorable 3 year old photographer-my son Noah! 💜💜💜
We hope you guys all have a great week. Thanks for following. We appreciate you all.
NEW YEARS EVE LOOK
We hope you all had a great Christmas. We don’t know about you guys, but we’re a little exhausted. Between all the kids’ events and family get togethers, we’re all Christmased out! We usually hang out with the kids and lay pretty low for NYE, but we always love NYE inspired looks. You guys know we can’t resist a great dress. Here’s a couple that would be great for NYE that we recently wore.
We always love to dress up our looks with some great statement jewelry. How amazing are these earrings by Jennifer Behr? Shop a very similar style by the same designer here
How great are these other statement pieces?
We hope you all have a fun, safe New Year’s. Cheers to new beginnings in 2020! We appreciate you all.
Christina and Jennifer
The weather was finally pretty warm in Michigan this past week. Of course a couple days after these pictures were taken, we had a big snow storm! I’m hoping we get some nice weather again soon.
I wanted to share one of my newest favorite outfits with you guys. This great twist tie thermal is from Evereve (linked here),and it’s so comfortable. I’ve never been the biggest fan of tucking in my shirt when wearing jeans, but the knot on this top allows for an effortless, comfortable, and slightly cropped look. Here’s some other great twist tie tops that I love: //shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/#/?options=%7B%22widgetId%22%3A%225a9c3606be7a446e27a6b62e%22%2C%22version%22%3A1%2C%22pid%22%3A%22uid4016-40529496-74%22%2C%22size%22%3A200%2C%22columns%22%3A3%2C%22rows%22%3A2%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fapi.shopstyle.com%2Fapi%2Fv2%22%2C%22iframeHeight%22%3A490%2C%22iframeWidth%22%3A705%7D
I like wearing a slightly cropped top with high waisted jeans. These from Topshop have been my favorite for a couple years!
The distressing goes so well with the relaxed look of the thermal top. These are currently out of stock, but here are a couple other great options: //shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/#/?options=%7B%22widgetId%22%3A%225a9c31a7e7055aa809ca1bee%22%2C%22version%22%3A1%2C%22pid%22%3A%22uid4016-40529496-74%22%2C%22size%22%3A200%2C%22columns%22%3A3%2C%22rows%22%3A2%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fapi.shopstyle.com%2Fapi%2Fv2%22%2C%22iframeHeight%22%3A490%2C%22iframeWidth%22%3A705%7D
And this amazing bralette is from amazon! It’s so inexpensive, and I love it because it has a little bit of padding unlike some of the other ones out there. It also comes in a lot of different colors which I love.
Here are some other great bralette options below: //shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/#/?options=%7B%22widgetId%22%3A%225a9c4156be7a446e27aa1035%22%2C%22version%22%3A1%2C%22pid%22%3A%22uid4016-40529496-74%22%2C%22size%22%3A200%2C%22columns%22%3A3%2C%22rows%22%3A1%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fapi.shopstyle.com%2Fapi%2Fv2%22%2C%22iframeHeight%22%3A275%2C%22iframeWidth%22%3A705%7D
And you can’t forget this wool hat from H&M. It’s super comfortable and great for spring.
Here are some other cute and inexpensive H&M hats: //shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/#/?options=%7B%22widgetId%22%3A%225a9c441ebe7a446e27aad810%22%2C%22version%22%3A1%2C%22pid%22%3A%22uid4016-40529496-74%22%2C%22size%22%3A200%2C%22columns%22%3A3%2C%22rows%22%3A2%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fapi.shopstyle.com%2Fapi%2Fv2%22%2C%22iframeHeight%22%3A490%2C%22iframeWidth%22%3A705%7D
I just got these great booties from Nordstrom. They are super cute and surprisingly comfy. These along with some other great options are linked below. And they’re all on sale! Happy shopping everyone!
